In the Gospel of John, Jesus gives His Church a model for serving each other and the world we live in. He who had much humbled Himself, removed His garments and took the posture of a servant. He, who should be served, served others.
We the Church must maintain a posture of humility, serving the least and the lost.
With water and a towel, He who was clean washed the feet of the dirty. The service the Church is not always clean; in fact it can get a bit messy.
We must be willing to dirty our hands, washing away the injustices of the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
And when we the Church serve the least, the lost, and the lonely- as our teacher showed us- we are truly shining the light of the Gospel into a very dark world.
