Journey Team Update!

I'm writing this update from our guest house quarters at approximately 7pm Thursday evening!

'Now the Lord said to Abram, "Go forth from your country, and from from your relatives and from your Father's house, to the land which I will show you..."' (Gen 12:1)

For many of us on this Journey Team we have left home, comforts, and the known and have come to a foreign and unfamaliar place.

However, for all of us, we have embarked upon a Journey of faith, exercising trust in the Lord, taking Him at at His word, risking on His great promises in hope of experiencing the living God in the face of the Son, amidst the poor and the forgotten.

"And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and so you shall be a blessing...

And in you all the famalies of the earth will be blessed" (Gen 12:2, 3b)

This great Gospel promise given to Abraham was fulfilled in Christ and we who believe are the fruit of that great promise. The Apostle Paul affirms this in his second letter to the church at Corinth. We, the church, are the product of God's promise of blessing all the famalies of the earth. We, the church, are the vessels in which God is extending this promise to all the famalies of the earth; even here in Kenya. Our prayer continues to be that God would use us who have been blessed, to be a blessing.

We all arrived safely and on time. Three of our team members' bags didnt' arrive but they were joyfully reunited with their clothes on Tuesday evening. Tuesday (our first day) was a great time of meeting our host and partner church the Fountain of Life Church. We enjoyed a morning of introductions followed by an amazing lunch with our church parnters. In the afternoon we spent time with the former orphaned and street boys, enjoying their testimonies, songs, and dancing. We finished the afternoon spending time learning about the history of the church, learning about the culture, and perparing to join the Home Based Care teams ministry intot the local slum communities. The team rested well after a long and tiring journey.

Yesterday was an incredible day of visiting vulnerable children living in HIV affected homes. Our team dispersed to two differnent slum communities, making home visitations. We met many courageous and desperate people. We prayed with them and presented them with Bibles. The slum visits were very difficult on the team but the investment of time and energy were worth the difficult environment and situations.

Today was a great day. The Waterstone team visited the Mathare Valley slum this morning to visit more HIV affected homes before taking off to the town of Juja to work with the Fountain of Life Church in Juja. Both the Waterstone and Plum Creek teams worked with 3 different churches today by visiting the surrounding communities and passing out information about free medical clinics and HIV testing foradults and children which will occur tomorrow, Friday, at 3 different church locations. We are praying for great turnouts at these churches so that these local churches can more visible and relevant to the people arround them. The teams also held sports games outreaches today at the three churches, playing and interacting with a number of local children. It was a great day for everyone!

Please pray that we might rest well tonight as tomorrow our teams will be a part of 3 church-based medical clinics and free HIV testing. The Waterstone team will be rejoining us here in Nairobi tomorrw night. Pray for their safe travel back from Juja.

I want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The team has been amazing and I am truly enjoying the opportunity to be a part of what God is doing here.

Blessings,
Michael
