Catching Up Again

Thank you in advance for taking time to catch up with us and for your love, prayers, and support. My prayer is that the truth, love, and grace of Jesus Christ might be more visible through my life, the lives of my family, and throughout every minute of yours: we must work while the sun still shines.

Since our last update we have experienced many emotions as we prepared to move to Colorado. It has been a bittersweet interlude: one of hope and sorrow and of new beginnings fused with white-hot memories of friends, family, and deep fellowship. By God’s grace, we learned what community really is: how it is supposed to look and feel. We are forever changed from our time spent on Sawgrass Lane. And we are forever grateful to Lakepointe church; which will always be our home church. Needless to say, Jodi and I have cried much but in the midst of our tears we have rejoiced in the fact that we serve a compassionate Lord who is in all and is all. He mends the broken things and restores our joy. Be assured that on this day, His peace and joy is with you: He will not forsake you.

We have begun to settle in but still can’t find anything and I’m continually tripping over unpacked boxes. The kids are all in school and have met some good kids. They seem to like their schools and teachers. We went to the Garden of the Gods state park and had a great time together as a family, taking in the splendor of the Artist. Veronica asked if it was a place where the Greek gods are, making the comment that, “our God is a much more loving God; the Greek gods were mean, Dad.”

I wouldn’t be forthcoming if I didn’t tell you that we have also had our challenges. But, God is faithful. We are never more like Jesus than when we find ourselves in the midst of a trial, and in these times we are so very close to our Father. There is joy in the sorrow, perseverance in suffering, and in all things thanksgiving. Please pray for us as we continue to vividly remember you all in our prayers.

I am now full-time with World Orphans serving as Chief Operating Officer for the ministry. We are experiencing God’s favor and affirmation as we work towards developing ministry partnerships with Compassion International, Samaritan’s Purse, CAM International, several Churches and individuals to strengthen churches around the world as they rescue and care for orphans. You can visit our President’s blog and keep up with World Orphans. We hope to launch our new website by the first part of October.

Ministry Support
We are actively raising part of our annual income through tax-deductible donations. Unlike most non-profit organizations, World Orphans does not take ten or twelve percent of every donation as a means of running the administrative aspects of the ministry. When you donate a dollar to a World Orphan project, 100% of that dollar goes toward a church based orphan home. All of our administrative funds are raised separately. We believe that this is the best way to honor the intent of the donor while holding the executive leadership to a higher level of accountability and performance.

With that said, I am raising a portion of our annual income to supplement the base salary I am receiving from World Orphans. Your financial and prayer support are both necessary and appreciated. If you would like to contribute to our ministry, your tax-deductible monthly donation can be sent to:

Jodi and I want to thank those of you who are participating in this ministry through your generosity, and thank those in advance who will come along side us in this endeavor.

Seminary

I successfully completed my first seminary class this summer at Dallas Theological Seminary. I want to thank those of you who did not allow me to run from the clear call for further equipping and knowledge. I also want to thank all of you who have prayed and continue to pray for me in this regard.

Now that we have moved to Colorado am I going to continue seminary? Absolutely. I will continue my studies via online learning and Winter/Summer intensive courses at the Dallas campus. I continue to thank God for the opportunity to study at such an amazing institution; I do not take for granted what God has done.

Prayer
Please continue to lift us up during this transition, when there are so many opportunities for the enemy to steal our joy;
Pray for God to lead us to a new church home;
Pray for Jodi to be a catalyst of prayer as she heads off to Jacksonville, FL to assist in an inner active prayer event;
Pray for a deeper reliance on the Trinity as I find my way through the ministry God has given me.

A thought…
‘How close God is to us when we come to recognize and to accept our abjection and to cast our care entirely upon Him! Against all human expectation He sustains us when we need to be sustained, helping us to do what seemed impossible. We learn to know Him, now, not in the “presence” that is found in abstract consideration- a presence in which we dress Him in our own finery- but in the emptiness of a hope that may come close to despair. For perfect hope is achieved on the brink of despair when, instead of falling over the edge, we find ourselves walking on the air. Hope is always just about to turn into despair, but never does so, for at the moment of supreme crisis God’s power is suddenly made perfect in our infirmity.’
Thomas Merton
