mission petition no. 5

And lead us not into temptation…

The enemy steals and lies and kills. We are tempted by the devil, by the flesh, and by the world. Satan would work in our minds to render us powerless, utterly useless for God’s purposes. The flesh becomes lazy, lethargic, out of shape, hungry, and desirous of fleshly things. The world would woo us into a sense of false security convincing us to attain power, money, education, technology, and religion; all the while we take our eyes from heaven and place them on idols. We convince ourselves that pursuing the so-called ‘good’ things of this world is compatible with our Christian walk. Everything of the world which we value is nothing compared to knowing Jesus Christ. The greatest things of this world are but folly to God.

Petition
Father, lead us not into temptation of any kind. Your Word says that you never lead your children into sin, and that temptation is the work of the devil. Father your son was tempted on a mountain overlooking all the great kingdoms and nations of the world. But Christ did not accept the Devil’s offer. Christ will bring every tribe, tongue, and nation to himself, but by the way of the Cross, God’s way, not by the Devil’s shortcut. God the Father I pray you keep our mission motive and strategy pure, gaining ground for You and not for ourselves or churches. Not only help us stave off temptation, but completely remove it from our missionary endeavors. Holy Spirit, strengthen us to go the way of the cross, walking worthy of our calling as we go into this world.
